Markets and Applications
TRAK Microwave Build-to-Print products are found in military aircraft, shipborne, missiles and ground based platforms. Space applications include components for communications, meteorological and intelligence gathering satellites. TRAK commercial products are used in point-to-point radio, wireless base stations, private radio systems, collision avoidance systems, distance measuring equipment and airborne weather radar. These are the primary applications; however TRAK's standard and custom product portfolio is very broad based and maybe used in a myriad of high-tech electronic applications.

TRAK is located in Tampa, Florida USA, on ten acres of land adjacent to the Tampa International Airport and operates within a newly renovated 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility. Electrical Test, Design and Manufacturing
TRAK's assembly techniques have been developed and perfected over many years and are continually monitored, revised and upgraded to remain current with application demands. Assembly and test techniques include pick and place automation, hybrid "chip and wire" assembly, as well as, hand placement of parts. TRAK uses the most current testing methods and equipment available in the industry. TRAK's in-house design and fabrication capability for assembly and test fixtures provide our customers with convenience as well as cost benefits. Each assembly is tested and visually inspected to ensure it was manufactured in accordance with applicable standards. The manufacturing process has an employee involved SPC program where records are collected and analyzed on a regular basis to identify variations in processes. This provides valuable feedback to the manufacturing staff for TRAK's continuous improvement plans. TRAK's versatile design software allows custom units to be produced with a high confidence factor.

Performance and Repeatability
All RF parameters, such as phase noise, isolation and intermodulation are routinely tested on automated test stations within the facility, allowing quick analysis of large amounts of data. It is TRAK's objective to provide assemblies that meet or exceed the customer specifications for electrical performance over the full range of environmental conditions. Electrical performance and repeatability are demonstrated through qualification testing, LRIP (low rate initial production) and 100% electrical test of critical parameters in production. TRAK uses automated or manual testing in accordance with standardized or custom written test procedures and software. All equipment is calibrated in accordance with ANSI/NCSL and Z540-1-1994.

  • Process Control Procedure PTM 19 - procedure identifies and plans the control of the processes that directly affect quality and insure that these processes are carried out under controlled conditions. Processes include the control of drawings, documentation, manufacturing standards, working environment, reference standards, workmanship standards, equipment maintenance and record retention.
Program management is involved from the conception including the negotiation process thus ensuring thorough communication at the earliest stages. All of the contract requirements are reviewed at pre-order entry. Next, a sales order containing all of the pertinent information is generated in TRAK's enterprise system to create necessary production and inspection criteria. TRAK's policy is to competitively bid material purchases. For common materials utilized on various programs, pricing agreements are established to reduce material costs. Purchasing is constantly evaluating material costs and investigating alternate sources. TRAK consistently exceeds expectations for continuous improvement with sustained positive trends with results linked to specific process improvements. TRAK's approach provides flexible processes and anticipates future customer requirements.

Material Control
As part of their enterprise system, TRAK has a fully functional ERP system for scheduling, tracking and control of material. Lot and serial control is available when required. TRAK maintains documentation controls consistent with industry standards, or as required on individual contracts. Standards include procedures for Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), changes to customer controlled drawings and general configuration management Customer review and approval of modifications are supported.

Quality Assurance
TRAK's Quality Assurance System is registered to ISO-9001:2008 and AS9100:2004 and meets the requirements of MIL-Q-9858A and MIL-I-45208A. Quality Assurance operations address incoming inspections, in-process inspections, final inspections, including data analysis and corrective action programs to ensure high quality products. Quality Assurance is actively involved with manufacturing operations to monitor SPC trends and determine effective corrective actions, facilitate the material review boards, engineering change boards and new product release boards. Quality Assurance provides the failure analysis and trends tracking for customer returns.

TRAK's quality philosophy conforms to a 6 Sigma program. Production data is collected, analyzed, acted on and monitored for improvement to complete the program. Inspection stations in the process, SPC teams and certified operators make up the program. TRAK staff has a complete understanding of their organization and how this supports the overall mission of the company and its customers. Customers are given direct points of contact in program management and contracts administration, which yields outstanding communication and timely problem resolution. Production employees receive a variety of in-house training applicable to their jobs including courses in J-STD soldering, NASA soldering, ESD, Hazmat, documentation use, rework processes and OJT. TRAK ensures that employees are cross trained for critical needs and support. TRAK's turn over rate consistently ranks significantly lower than industry and location standards reported. TRAK maintains a first and second shift that is capable of rapid expansion, which would significantly increase capacity. In addition, TRAK has the ability to operate a third shift when needed to meet increasing demand.
